Durham Cathedral is one of the great buildings of Europe. Set grandly on a rocky promontory next to the Castle with the medieval city huddled below and the river sweeping round, the profile of the World Heritage Site is instantly recognisable to people travelling up and down the East Coast Main Line.
The Cathedral is a spectacular place to visit and the surrounding city of Durham is equally as spectacular. Once you’ve took in the history at the cathedral, you can enjoy a walk around Durham City Centre, where the streets are cobbled, you really get the feeling you are in a mediaeval city. The views from the bridges in Durham are amazing on a night time especially, when the lights from the bars and restaurants along the river reflect in the water.
